3D Printing

additive manufacturing of sand molds and cores

We produce castings from aluminum using lost molds made of bonded sand. Typically, models (positive representations of the later casting) are required for the production of the sand molds. An exception is the direct production of molds and cores using 3D printing.

For this, we use a modern 3D printer. Layer by layer, without the need for a model, the required sand molds and cores are created. Complex geometries and small series can thus be manufactured economically.

The mold sand is applied layer by layer with a special articulated arm robot. The binder system is selectively printed – only there does the sand harden. This shifts the boundaries of manufacturability and economy.

Our maximum dimensions for 3D-printed sand molds or cores: 1,800 x 900 x 900 mm.
